The Wyoming County Community Alliance is pleased to announce that the Food Emergency Distribution (FED) program that was started during the height of the COVID pandemic will continue into 2022. Food deliveries were scheduled to end as the effects of COVID subsided, but food insecurity continues to be an issue for many families in the county.
Part of the funding for FED will come from Pennsylvania’s Neighborhood Assistance Program. The Alliance works closely with the Wyoming County Chamber of Commerce to take in the food, parcel and pack it, then deliver it to local residents. It is expected that more than 1,500 food boxes will be distributed next year to families unable to travel for food resources.
“With this wonderful opportunity comes a growing need for volunteers,” said Chamber president Gina Suydam. People are needed to off-load the food when it arrives at the Chamber building on Mile Road on the third Monday of every month. There it is sorted and repackaged, after which additional volunteers are needed for delivery to as many as 125 residences throughout the county.
The next day for off-loading and packaging is Monday, Dec. 20. Volunteer opportunities are available on other days of the week as well. People interested in assisting with the FED program in Wyoming County are urged to sign up online at https:wyccc.com/alliance/.
