Sullivan County Conservation District (SCCD) Manager Carrie Richmond recently presented Senator Gene Yaw with the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts (PACD) Legislator Leadership Award. The SCCD nominated Senator Yaw for this award, which is presented to a legislator whose outstanding efforts have helped further the activities and accomplishments of the PACD or Pennsylvania’s 66 county conservation districts. The award was announced in July during PACD’s virtual conference, but only recently did the opportunity come about that the award could be presented in person.

In a news release from his press staff, Yaw said that he was extremely honored and grateful to the SCCD.

This year, I was proud to advocate for legislation which would dedicate additional financial resources to protect Pennsylvania’s waterways,” Yaw stated “Pennsylvania has been blessed with over 85,000 miles of rivers and streams, a density of surface water unmatched in the continental United States. Unfortunately, a legacy of intensive land use has left almost one-third of those waters unsafe for either humans or aquatic life.”
