The North Branch Trout Derby Association held its 12th Kids Trout Derby on May 15. This year’s event was held in Forkston Township. Children from throughout the region spent the day fishing with family and friends. With the help of sponsors, the NBTDA stocked the private pond with over 1,500 Rainbow and Brook trout prior to the event.

The fishing was a little slow early Saturday but improved throughout the day. Perch and Bluegill were also caught. A fishing cleaning station was available to prepare their catch for the table.

The kids were kept busy and were able to maintain safe distancing with various attractions  FWM brought an ambulance and firetruck for a show-and-tell for future volunteers. Quality Deer Management, Wyoming County Primitive Weapons, and the PA Fish and Boat Commission had educational booths for all to enjoy.

Cabela’s provided BB Gun and Archery tents for the children. The food stand was a popular spot all day, offering an extensive menu. On Sunday, our guests included special needs children and adults, along with military Veterans. The fish were hungry, and the action was fast and furious. Representatives from Hunts for Healing were among our guests, as were members of the FWM Ambulance Company. Lunch and soft drinks were provided to our Sunday guests.

NBTDA would like to thank the community for the generous support through donations and prizes. Our event was forced to move at the last minute, and the dedicated members of the NBTDA were able to accomplish the monumental and expensive move.
