The Rail-Trail Council of NEPA will celebrate recent improvements to six and a half miles of a trail between Herrick and Ararat in Susquehanna County on Thursday, Oct. 18. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 9:30 am where the trail crosses Ararat Road southwest of Thompson.
The event will feature an official dedication, remarks by funders and public officials, including Sen. Lisa Baker and Rep. Jonathan Fritz, refreshments, and an invitation to “hit the trail” on bikes or on foot.
The Herrick to Ararat D&H Rail-Trail Project was funded via the Transportation Alternative Program and the Herrick Township supervisors; the PA DCNR Environmental Stewardship Fund’s Recreational Trails Program; the PA Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Trails, Greenways and Recreation Program; and trail users and recreational supporters within the community.
