Egg Hunt Beats Rain Showers at Meshoppen

Six- to eight-year old children (top) move into position during last Saturday’s Easter Egg Hunt in Meshoppen. Each of thousands of plastic eggs contained candy or a numbered slip that corresponded to donated prizes. Big winners included Kaylee DeLucy of Meshoppen (above) and Treiah Vaow (below) of Tunkhannock.

Though weather forecasts varied and suggested that rain showers might move through the area as hundreds of children and other family members gathered at Meshoppen Community Park on April 16, the annual egg hunt moved quickly and was finished before the first raindrop fell.

The event is sponsored by the Meshoppen Holiday Fund, coordinated by Holly Stark, and supported by numerous local businesses and a band of faithful volunteers.

In addition to hunting for eggs, participants were treated to cocoa, hot dogs, and colorful cupcakes. The Meshoppen Holiday Fund also conducts an annual costume parade and party for families at Halloween. Readers interested in supporting and/or volunteering for events can contact Holly through the Meshoppen Holiday Fund page on Facebook.

  2. Keeping the old traditions is very important. Hats off to the Meshoppen Holiday Fund!!!!! If we don’t teach them about traditions I feel their lives will end up empty.
