The sights and sounds of the season will fill downtown Dushore on Saturday, Dec. 14, when the Christmas in Dushore festivities take place.
This annual event will turn the streets of Dushore into a Christmas wonderland, starting with Breakfast with Santa and ending with the spectacular Christmas Parade of Lights.
Pam’s Restaurant, 183 East Main Street, is where the kids can get their bellies full of breakfast between 8 and 11 am while hanging out with good ol’ Saint Nick. At 10 am, the events swing into full gear. There will be a cookie walk at the fire hall for those wishing to gather up some holiday treats. From 10 am – 4 pm, the Sullivan County Library will have a book sale and also welcome author and storyteller M.J. McCluskey, who wrote the book Grace Comes at Christmas – a story about a little kitten who ends up alone in a cold field on Christmas Eve.
On Main Street, there will be a Tree Fest – a gathering of Christmas trees sponsored by businesses and individuals and decorated with their theme-of-choice. Visitors can walk among these trees and vote on their favorite. There will also be a model train exhibit here to check out, with both open for viewing from 10am until 6pm.
The afternoon promises some fun activities for everyone, with an ornament scavenger hunt downtown from 12-4 pm, a holiday pet parade in the Guthrie parking lot (102 East Main Street) at 2:30 pm, Santa’s Pizza Party at Pam’s Restaurant from 3-5 pm, and the Christmas Marketplace on Center Street from 4-8pm with a variety of gift ideas to choose from, and lots of food as well.
As the sun goes down, the festivities light up, with the Kiwanis Tree Lighting Ceremony beginning at 5:30 pm on Main Street. The ceremony will be accompanied by caroling with the Dushore Music Club.
Everyone will be gathering along South German, Water, Main, and Center streets, waiting to watch the creative, fun parade of floats and vehicles – all covered in holiday lights in some form or fashion – to pass by starting at 6 pm.
Christmas in Dushore is sponsored by the Dushore Area Business Association and all are welcome to attend. For more information, call 570-500-5078.
