Brief Warm-Up to Follow Weekend Chill

Many stretches of the Susquehanna River through the Endless Mountains are chock-full of ice. At Tunkhannock, ice stretches from one bank to the other, though it is noticeably thinner in the middle. Weekend temperatures will do little to change that, but three or four days above freezing next week may break it up.

While it appears that the impending nor’easter will be a much greater threat to New Jersey and New England, brutally cold temperatures and wind will move into the area over the weekend before a brief warm-up and some rain visit us next week.

The long-term forecast follows:

Thursday night: 18 cloudy

Friday: 26/4 cloudy

Saturday: 13/3 windy

Sunday: 22/7 partly sunny

Monday: 30/15 partly sunny

Tuesday: 38/29 partly sunny

Wednesday: 45/39 showers

Thursday: 45/33 showers

Friday: 36/10 snow showers

The weather report is based on expected conditions at approximately 1,100 ft elevation in Meshoppen Township, Wyoming County, near the center of the Endless Mountains region. Residents of river towns can generally expect slightly higher temperatures, while those at higher elevations may experience lower temperatures.
