Williams Seeks Re-Election in Wyoming County

Wyoming Commissioner Ron Williams will run to retain the seat that he won to in 2011 in the May 19 primary elections. The sole Democrat on the three-member board also served as Commissioner from 1987 to 2003, when he was appointed by was appointed by Secretary of Agriculture Dennis Wolfe as Northeast Regional Director of Agriculture.

Williams has completed a two-year course in excellence in county government, attended Lackawanna College in Scranton for criminal justice and business administration, and served in the US Army Reserve.

Williams was previously Commissioner Liaison for 911 and Emergency Management when the county residents and business owners suffered the aftermath of tornadoes, blizzards, severe floods, and a toxic fire that lasted more than a week.

In this capacity, Williams helped to ensure the health, safety and welfare of citizens and emergency responders. In 2006, Williams became certified in the National Incident Management System and completed training in Agriculture and Food Vulnerability and Emergencies in 2007.

The former chairman of the Northern Tier Regional Planning and Development Commission is also currently the Chairman of Trehab Community Action Service Organization. Williams is also a member of the Statewide Adoption Network and serves as Vice Chairman of Pennsylvania Resource Family, Chairman of the Luzerne/Wyoming County Aging Foundation, and a member of the Wyoming County Special Needs Committee.

Additional community involvement includes lifetime membership to the Lake Winola Fire Company, and associations with the Wyoming County Cultural Center, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, and Wyoming County Cares Committee.

He was appointed by former Gov. Ed Rendell to the Interbranch Commission on Juvenile Justice, which was formed to investigate and make recommendations in response to the Luzerne County Juvenile situation.

Williams resides in Lake Winola with his wife, Ellen, and three children: Zhane, Isaiah, and Anthony. Adult daughters Tracy Williams Bogdon and Victoria Williams Davies live with their spouses and children in Larksville and Lake Winola, respectively.

As an incumbent, Williams pledged that, if re-elected, he will continue to serve the citizens of Wyoming County full-time with emphasis on jobs, the economy, and the environment.

The final day to register for the May 19 elections is Monday, April 20. The Municipal Elections will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
