Edited from submitted materials

A Quilts of Valor Ceremony was held for eight veterans during the 5th Annual Northern Tier Veterans Picnic at Mountaineer Park in Monroeton on June 11. Handmade quilts were awarded to veterans who have been “touched by war,” according to the Quilts of Valor Foundation. The Bradford/Sullivan chapter has awarded more than 120 quilts to area veterans.
Veterans and their presenters included (above, from left) Jessica Ripley, Marine Corps, and Sharon Sargent; Ron Hill, Marine Corps and Sally Jennings; George Tucci, Army, and Ruth Clearwater; Michael Stavisky, Army, and June Boyer; Timothy Gaughran, Army, and Faye Lubold; Lynford Hart, Navy, and Irene Hugo; Burton Adams, Army, and Rep. Tina Pickett; and Edward Stone, Army and Navy, and Renee Stewart.
Pickett (below, center) noted in a newsletter, “It was also good to see Towanda native, Retired Army Reserve Major General Leslie Purser (left), and former Sullivan County commissioner and Vietnam veteran, Wylie Norton (right), at the picnic.
We thank all our veterans for their service and sacrifice.”
