Park in West Falls Prepped for Warmer Weather

By Rick Hiduk

Exeter Township officials and residents of West Falls received some welcomed assistance on Sunday when a team of workers arrived at George Hock Memorial Park to prepare it for summer. The helpers were participants in the Wyoming Sullivan County Drug Treatment Court program and did a considerable amount of work to fulfill some of their community service requirements.

According to Exeter Township supervisor Carol Bardzel, the crew started by picking up a lot of branches downed during recent storms, raked the park, then spread 90 cubic feet of mulch around the play and zip line areas. The weather was a bit on the clammy side with intermittent drizzle and cool showers.

The park looks awesome. We are all very grateful for their help and look forward to having them again,” Bardzel remarked.

They did a great job for us,” fellow supervisor Rick Wilbur agreed. “They filled in numerous holes with top soil and seeded them.”

Bardzel related that she talked to a number of the Treatment Court team members and took an interest in their stories. One of the female participants told Bardzel how grateful she was for the opportunity to get her life back on track through the program. In addition to the Treatment Court members, assistance in the park on Sunday was provided by Exeter Township resident Mark Hopkins, who operated the front-end loader, township supervisor Bobby Montross and employee Tim Pierce.
