Oldest House to Kick Off Season with ‘A Simpler Thyme’

Submitted Article

Spring has finally arrived and with it comes the opening of Laceyville’s Oldest House and its first major event of the season.

This year’s A Simpler Thyme will be held May 18-20. The house, which will be open from 9 am to 5 pm Friday and Saturday, and 1 to 4 pm on Sunday, will give visitors a look into the time when The Jenny Wren Tea Room was a popular stop for locals and tourists alike. There will also be displays of period clothing and quilts, as well as information on the house and its former inhabitants.

Many people look forward to the event’s popular plant and herb sale which will be going on all three days. The plants are supplied by area residents who have lovingly cared for and donated them to this Oldest House fundraiser. Anyone wishing to contribute an item for the sale may do so by placing it on the patio behind the house.

In keeping with the decades-old tradition, tours of the Oldest House, which are now self-guided with knowledgeable guides close by, will also be kicking off during this weekend and are planned to continue each weekend until early September.

There is no admission fee for A Simpler Thyme, although donations are appreciated. Light refreshments will be available every day as well.

The Oldest House is located at 297 Main St., Laceyville. For more information, call 570-869-1679.
