Heating System at Prison Has a Bad Day

By Rick Hiduk

The furnace at the Wyoming County Prison in Tunkhannock shut down on Feb. 24 in the midst of the cold snap that has held sway in the Endless Mountains since January. Warden Ken Repsher said that the culprit was a combination of a bad gasket and snow and was remedied within about five hours of the disruption.

We had it up and running by one o’clock,” Repsher related. “The building itself is secure, and the heat stayed in. Bit it had us nervous for a few seconds.”

Meanwhile, the County Commissioners noted that a new hot water system for which funding had been secured in late 2013 will be installed in the coming weeks. The Commissioners recently awarded the contract for the new boilers to Bill Ivey, who, Commissioner Ron Williams noted had ordered the parts.
