Craig Martin Bauer, 47, Montrose faces charges for making terroristic threats that caused the evacuation of the P&G Federal Credit Union on Lane Hill Road in Tunkhannock Township on Sept. 20. Just before 3 pm that day, an employee at the credit union received a call from a male who stated “There is a bomb in your parking lot” and hung up.

Police were called as the building was evacuated and employees assembled across Lane Road, which was also closed to traffic. Police officers from both Tunkhannock Township and Borough and Pennsylvania State Police searched the grounds and perimeter of the bank and the lot. Employees were then brought two at a time to look into their vehicles with police for anything that appeared suspicious. Finding nothing, employees went back inside the bank, though the credit union remained closed for the remainder of the day.

Over the next week, Sgt. Robert Reimiller conducted a tedious back-and-forth investigation with several phone companies that led him to Bauer, who was using a phone that was registered in someone else’s name. When Reimiller finally got Bauer on the same phone that was used to make the call to the credit union, Bauer allegedly admitted to making the calls that appeared on the phone log prior to and after the call to the credit union but denied making the threatening call.

According to the police report, he told Reimiller that anyone could have made the call because he leaves the phone in his car. Reimiller asked Bauer when he could come to the station in Tunkhannock Township for further discussion, and Bauer said that he could be there on Monday, Oct. 1. As of Oct. 2, Reimiller had yet to make contact with the department. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 6.
