Master Gardener Photo Contest Moves into New Year

Submitted Article

The Penn State Extension Master Gardeners in Susquehanna County’s monthly photo contest continues with ‘Winter Landscapes’ as January’s theme. December’s theme was ‘Holiday Decorations.’ According to Master Gardener coordinator Kimberly Grace, “There were several super photos from Abigail Roe, Bev. H. James, and Alicia Grenier. We could only pick one, and we are proud to announce December’s winner: Lisa Wilcox of Laceyville, PA and her expansive Christmas village.”

Wilcox told Grace that winning the contest was a special surprise because she found out she won on her birthday. Wilcox began her Christmas village 20 years ago and, every year, she and her family add new buildings and trinkets to it. They are planning on building the village even bigger for this coming year. In the summer, she and her family tend a vegetable garden and a few flower gardens on their property in Laceyville. This year was a good gardening year for them, they ended up with tomato plants that were over 6 feet tall.

The new contest began on Jan. 1 and ends on Jan. 31. Participants should log on to the Facebook page: Penn State Ext Master Gardeners of Susquehanna County, PA, to upload their photo, indicating entries with #photocontestJan. Grace snapped the sample photo at top.

Kimberly asked that participants also check out the informative gardening posts and LIKE the page. Winning photos will be posted on the Facebook page, the Penn State Master Gardener website- https://extension.psu.edu/programs/master-gardener/counties/susquehanna, and in local newspapers along with some comments about the winning photographer, Winners have received prizes like gift certificates and gardening books.
