Energy Companies to Sponsor Ag Day Lunch in Montrose

Coterra Energy and Expand Energy are partnering this year to provide lunch for guests of the 35th annual Susquehanna County Ag Day which will be held on Friday, March 21 at Montrose Area High School for the first time this year. Hosted by Penn State Extension, Ag Day offers farmers, home- and landowners five hours of social connectivity, educational presentations, and a vendor expo.

More than 75 agriculture-related businesses and organizations will be on hand to talk with consumers, who can also take part in classroom sessions, bid on freshly baked pies, and enjoy free milk and ice cream. Admission to the event, which will run from 10 am to 3 pm, is free, but registration is required for lunch by logging on to extension.psu.edu and searching Susquehanna County Ag Day or by calling 877-345-0691.

Ag Day began as Dairy Day and has grown steadily in size and scope. The event provides opportunities for local residents to talk to representatives from health-focused agencies, sit in on classes with Penn State educators, and win some prizes via activities conducted by youth-oriented organizations like Susquehanna County 4-H and the Susquehanna County Dairy Promotion Court.

Ag Day is one of the most pivotal events of the year for farmers and landowners of Susquehanna County and beyond to join together for educational presentations and quality social time with vendors and one another just before the new growing season begins,” said Sarah Welch, a client relationship manager for the Penn State Extension. “When you really take a close look, what makes this event a success year after year is the people. And we’re so happy to have Coterra and Expand partnering with us this year.”

Coterra is a long-time supporter of Ag Day not only as a lunch sponsor but also for bidding on the pies made by youths to encourage their continued involvement in ag-related community activities. “Lunchtime at Ag Day is a much-anticipated part of the event,” said Coterra external affairs manager Bill desRosiers. “Not only do people look forward to catching up with their neighbors over a good meal, you always find yourself talking to someone new. Coterra is glad to be part of that experience.”

This is the first year that Expand Energy, resulting from the merger of Southwestern Energy and Chesapeake Energy. Expand’s Northeast Appalachia Team has already demonstrated its commitment to the region through numerous volunteer initiatives coordinated by Northeast Appalachia community affairs manager Betty Jo Morris.

Ag Day addresses more aspects of rural living every year,” desRosiers stated. “We are always impressed by the variety of participants and very appreciative of the Penn State Extension for the hard work they put into it. We’re also excited about this new opportunity to partner this year with Expand Energy.”
