Crockpot Cookoff Planned to Benefit Meshoppen Cat Rescue

The annual Crockpot Pot Luck Cook-Off to Benefit Meshoppen Cat Rescue will be held on Sunday, Feb. 25 in the Banquet Room at American Legion Post 510 on Old Route in Black Walnut – half way between Meshoppen and Laceyville.

From 1 to 4 p.m., the public is invited to enjoy an afternoon of food, fun and fur babies, as there will be adoptable kittens on site. Just five dollars provides access to all of the crockpot entries and five voting tickets. Fifteen voting tickets can be purchased for just ten dollars, and additional voting tickets can be purchased during the event.

Organizers are seeking amateur and professional cooks to deliver anything in a crockpot that can be served with a single utensil. Condiments like hot sauce, sour cream, seasonings and crackers are permitted. Entrants provide serving utensils and a list of ingredients on a small placard to alert tasters of any potential allergens.

Cost for entering a crock is fifteen dollars for amateurs and twenty-five dollars for professionals. Cash prizes will be awarded based on the number of crocks entered. The public chooses the Peoples Choice Winners with their voting tickets. There will also be a secret panel of judges to decide Judges Choice Winners.

Also needed are themed-baskets, unused merchandise, and gift certificates from local businesses for the raffle table. Volunteer servers and people to help set up and maintain the food and raffle tables and clean up after the event are also welcome. All participants will have access to the bar and smoking areas.

Crockpots will be accepted on Feb. 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Raffle items will be accepted up to 12:45 the day of the event. Voting will end and the raffle table will close at 3:15 to allow for tallying and the announcement of winners prior to 4 p.m.

DJ Rick will play a variety of family-friendly music and serve as emcee for the event. All proceeds from tasting fees and raffle ticket purchases will go directly to Meshoppen Cat Rescue, which rescues and shelters sick and homeless cats from across Wyoming County.

Table space is limited, so preregistration is strongly recommended. For more details on entering crockpots or to make arrangements for pickup of raffle items, interested readers can log on to the Meshoppen Cat Rescue Facebook page and click on the events tab.
