Clifford Township Historical Society to End Season with Open House

Submitted Article

The last Open house for this year for the three venues of the Clifford Township Historical Society will be Sunday, Oct. 21, from 1 to 4 pm. Start the tour at the historic Clifford Baptist Church, Church Street in Clifford that was built when Thomas Jefferson was still alive. Then drive a mile to the Museum of Local History in the Community Center Building at 119 Cemetery Street in Clifford. The exhibits in the museum include our Native American Canoe display with a gorgeous mural by Michelle McLain and an audio presentation by Frank Little Bear, a blacksmith shop, general store, early farm house and barn and the fire tower map from Elk Mountain. Another mile drive takes you to the renovated Hoover one room school at 2236 state route 2014.

Visitors are always impressed with the quality of our venues and enjoy the stories and information shared by the docents at each stop on the tour. Your whole family will enjoy the afternoon learning the history of our area and sharing their own stories with us.

The Clifford Children’s Garden, adjacent to the Community Center, is also open for young ones to hatch out of the dinosaur egg, bounce like Tigger, play in the Native American Long House and the pioneer log cabin, dig coal in the Clifford Mine Shaft, run through the 4 doors of history and pretend they are a butterfly. Signage in the Garden explains the history represented in the garden.
