Forest City Borough will receive $273,000 from PennDOT’s Multimodal Transportation Fund, Rep. Jonathan Fritz (Susquehanna/Wayne) announced today.
The funds will facilitate a streetscape project along the east side of the 400, 500 and 600 blocks of Main Street in Forest City, including replacement of concrete sidewalks and installation of pavers, shade trees and decorative period lighting.
“I am very pleased to see these resources directed to the 111th District. Given that we are a rural district and the competiveness of the program, much advocacy is required to get these approvals,” said Fritz. “I’m glad it worked out and am happy that Forest City will realize these funds as they continue to make upgrades to their downtown.”
In total, 45 projects benefiting 22 counties received grants.
The $41.5 million investment follows PennDOT’s evaluation of 222 applications requesting more than $241 million. The department made selections based on safety benefits, regional economic conditions, the technical and financial feasibility, job creation, energy efficiency, and operational sustainability.
The Multimodal Transportation Fund was created by Act 89, enacted in November 2013, Pennsylvania’s far-reaching transportation funding plan. For the first time, transit, aviation, rail freight, pedestrian and bicycle modes obtained dedicated sources of funds, putting the modes on a firmer footing for future initiatives.
