Responding to a recent request made by board members of the Bradford County Veterans Memorial Park Association (BCVMPA), the Orwell Township Supervisors stepped up to the plate to donate $1,100 toward the estimated $375,000 needed to complete the final phase of the project.

The formal donation occurred on July 30, when Chairman of the Orwell board, Milton Robinson (above, right), met Joe Doherty of BCVMPA in front of the “Towns & Borough” plaque at the park in Towanda to deliver the check.

Robinson related to Doherty that the amount represented one dollar from each of the town’s one thousand one hundred residents who are very proud to take a part in the creation of a long overdo patriotic installation.

Doherty expressed his gratitude on behalf of BCVMPA to Robinson and the residents of the Orwell area for helping out to offset the high costs related to the construction and infrastructure needed to make this park a landmark installation for the veterans and veteran families of the county.

Doherty noted also that Ridgebury Township made a donation to the park project. In the coming weeks and months, BCVMPA associates will appear at various township and borough meetings to make formal presentations and ask for in-kind donations.
