James Walsh, 23, Montrose, faces charges for alteration or destruction of a vehicle identification number, receiving stolen property, defiant trespass on a posted property, and public drunkenness or similar misconduct. State police were notified at about 9:30 am on July 20 that a young man appeared to be sleeping in a white Chevy Cavalier parked at an American Cell Tower site off Brunges Mountain Road in Windham Township, Wyoming County. An officer encountered Walsh, who first gave his name as “Jim Welsh.” The VIN number of the vehicle below the windshield had been destroyed, but the officer was able to retrieve the number inside the door. The Cavalier belonged to Susquehanna County resident, Nick White, and Walsh was found to be wanted on related charges there. His preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 2.
