Laceyville’s Oldest House (above) will host a Grand Reopening from Friday to Sunday, July 14, 15, and 16. After several months of repairs to the structure it is ready to open again for special events and weekend tours. The supporting sills of the house were replaced and, as is often the case, one project led to another.
The main goal of the work was to reinforce the house in order to allow it to continue standing for many more years to come. During the work, floors were reinforced and wiring and heating were updated, making the house safer and more comfortable for visitors and events.
On July 14, the doors will open again from 9 am to 4 pm for tours. This is the weekend that the Morrison family’s love of music the house has traditionally been celebrated, the Morrisons being the last family to fully inhabit the house. On July 15, the house will open at 9 am. At 4:30 pm, there will be a ceremony celebrating the reopening of the House followed by a covered dish picnic.
The House will provide the meat and beverage, and guests are asked to bring a dish to pass and their own place setting. Please RSVP to 570-869-1679 or Jeanne DeRemer’s shop if you plan to attend the picnic. The day-long celebration will be topped off with the music of The Wyalusing Adult Band beginning at 6:30 pm. Bring a folding chair and plan to spend the day stepping back in time to the sounds of music and friendship.
The House will be open Sunday from 1 to 4 pm for tours that will continue throughout the summer each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 1 to 4 pm, as tour guides are available. Reader who would like to volunteer as a tour guide or help in any way with the house may call Tony DeRemer at 570-869-2333.
