Congressman Fred Keller congratulated the Lemon Township & Tunkhannock Township Joint Municipal Sewer Authority on receiving a $10,008,698 grant and a $3,317,652 loan from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) to help eliminate the use of contaminated drinking wells, work to improve an impaired local lake, and construct a new wastewater treatment plant.
In August, Congressman Keller sent a letter of support to PENNVEST noting the history of the Joint Sewer Authority, the importance of the project, and how the money would be used if granted.
Congressman Keller also visited with the Joint Sewer Authority about the issue during a visit to Tunkhannock and Lemon Townships earlier this summer where he toured Lake Carey and spoke with Joint Sewer Authority leaders to learn about the remediation plans.
On the award of the grant, Congressman Fred Keller made the following statement:
“I want to thank PENNVEST and congratulate the Lemon Township & Tunkhannock Township Joint Municipal Sewer Authority on receiving this sizable amount of assistance. This is a critical project and I learned first-hand about the need for improvements at Lake Carey to ensure clean drinking water and a safer environment. This money will go a long way to creating a better wastewater treatment system and fixing the septic issues in the Lake Carey area.”
