Ice Jams Cause Anxious Moments Along Tunkhannock Creek

After flooding portions of Nicholson on Tuesday, ice chunks dislodged by rising waters from this week’s storm system continued to cause concern as they flowed downstream through Tunkhannock Township, building up on both sides of the Route 6/92 bridge west of Shadowbrook Resort and slowly draining into the Susquehanna River under the Route 6 Bypass at Tunkhannock (below).

Stream levels, which cannot always take into account the effects of ice jams, fluctuated wildly through the day by as much as six feet in a matter of hours.
