Heritage Region to Host Grant Writing Workshop in Tunkhannock

A grant workshop will be held at the Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock on Friday, Jan. 31, beginning at 9 a.m. This annual event is sponsored by the Endless Mountains Heritage Region (EMHR) and is free to the public, though registration is required. The Dietrich Theater is located at 60 East Tioga Street. New to this year’s workshop is an additional and optional grant writing class with Linda Falcone of the Penn State Extension and Kimberly Jennings of Northern Tier Regional Planning and Development Commission from noon to 1 p.m., immediately following the regular workshop.

This is the sixth consecutive year that the Heritage Region has held our grants workshop, and participation in the event grows every year,” said EMHR executive director Cain Chamberlin. “The whole objective is to make our counties, municipalities, heritage partners, and fellow non-profits aware of grant funding opportunities available to them. Once again, we have representatives from a variety of agencies, each bringing broad expertise and fresh perspectives to the workshop. We’re excited to be able to offer an additional hands-on segment during which participants can learn from professionals how to best express their intentions when they fill out grant applications.”

Speakers will discuss a wide array of grant options, including those pertaining to outdoor recreation, historic preservation, community and economic development, event promotion and more. Participants will also have plenty of time to ask questions of the presenters. Representatives of area businesses, non-profit and not-for-profit organizations, and municipalities are encouraged to attend.

Scheduled presenters include Dept. of Conservation & Natural Resources northeast regional adviser Christine Dettore; Dept. of Community & Economic Development regional director Paul Macknosky; Bradford County Promotion Agency executive director Robyn Cummings; Endless Mountains Visitors Bureau executive director Jean Ruhf; Susquehanna County Promotion and Tourism Agency executive director Staci Wilson; PennDOT District 4 project manager April Hannon; Northern Tier Regional Planning and Development Commission program manager Kim Jennings; Susquehanna River Basin Commission environmental scientist Johanna Hripto; and Cain Chamberlin on behalf of the EMHR.

The EMHR has a lot of fun, informative events in store in 2025 and numerous options for getting our residents and visitors to the Region outside to enjoy everything we have to offer,” Chamberlin stated. “The annual Grants Workshop is a great kickoff to a year that will offer new and recurring educational workshops, historic preservation efforts, water trail events, and outdoor activities. It is the EMHR’s hope that this workshop will help participants attain needed funding for initiatives and projects that will benefit our communities and make them stronger.”

According to Chamberlin, interest in the Jan. 31 workshop and grant writing class at the Dietrich Theater is already strong, and there’s plenty of room for more participants.
