A violent thunderstorm that passed through the Meshoppen area at about 2:45 pm on Tuesday brought down numerous tree along a relatively short stretch of Route 6 west of the borough, some onto vehicles, and this one onto utility lines. First responders included Meshoppen Police and Meshoppen Fire Company via Brush Truck 2. Vehicles quickly backed up in both directions and did not move again until about 4:50 pm, according to first responders and those who were stuck in the traffic. While some who were surprised by the number of trees felled thought a small tornado might have been to blame, Dave Nicosia of the National Weather Service in Binghamton, NY reviewed the radar and verified that it was straight-line wind damage.
