Celebrate National Cheese Day with a Charcuterie Board

Article submitted by Susquehanna County Dairy Promotion

National Cheese Day is celebrated in June and is the perfect time to celebrate one of everyone’s favorite food, cheese. This unofficial holiday is celebrated annually and this year will be celebrated on June 4. Hi, my name is Courtney Marvin (above) and I have the privilege of just becoming the Susquehanna County Dairy Princess and I challenge you to join in on celebrating cheese on National Cheese Day.

Celebrating cheese is easy because everyone loves some type of cheese. There are so many different cheeses to enjoy, in fact over 2,000. Cheese comes in many different flavors and there are five types of cheese; fresh, soft, semi-hard, hard and blue. You can eat your cheese by itself, hot or cold, added to your food, or with some crackers or fruit. There is a cheese type and flavor for everyone to try and enjoy.

Cheese is a dairy product and an excellent source of protein, calcium, and other essential nutrients our bodies need. Did you know it takes 10 pounds of milk to make 1 pound of cheese? Cheese is one of the three every day of dairy that is recommended we consume to stay healthy. With nicer weather here, so will be summer picnics and barbeques. One of the things I love to make and bring to a barbeque is a Charcuterie board. They are easy and fun to make and a great way to enjoy the many different types and flavors of cheese. I’m leaving you with a Charcuterie board recipe to make and enjoy. Happy National Cheese Day!
