Celebrate Earth Day at the North Branch Land Trust’s Howland Preserve. The fourth annual student Art Show at The Howland Preserve will be held in the 1800s draft horse barn from 1 to 3 pm. The Art Show includes paintings rendered by Tunkhannock Area School District students during an artist-in-residence program with artist Annmarie Ciccarelli and art teachers Allison (Ali) Wilson and Debra Donowski. There will be more than 300 mixed-media paintings by the talented Art students of Tunkhannock Area Middle School on display. The Artist-in Residence program is sponsored by the PA Council on the Arts.

The students were guided on techniques to create paintings of natural objects “from the Earth,” including blueberries, red beets, yellow onions, and other vegetables. The students and artists cooked the vegetables, strained them and then painted with the natural dyes made from the plant materials. Their work focuses on contour drawings, making the natural dyes from plants, and finally painting with the dyes. Come celebrate the Arts and Earth Day by attending this unique show at the North Branch Land Trust’s Howland Preserve.

The Howland Preserve is an environmentally protected property that was donated to the North Branch Land Trust by the late Ernest E. Howland. It was his vision to protect this 669-acre property along the Susquehanna River that includes three historical buildings. It is an amazing place to connect people to the land and to see the natural beauty of North Eastern Pennsylvania.

The Friends of Howland Preserve is a 501c (3) non-profit organization run by volunteers to aid the property’s owner, The North Branch Land Trust. The Friends of Howland Preserve work hard to enhance, restore, maintain, improve, and promote the historic property in Wyoming County for the community’s use and benefit. Come check out this unique location and talented student Art Show.

The event is hosted by the Friends of Howland Preserve. The event will be held at 546 Vosburg Road, Tunkhannock, PA 18657. Visit www.howlandpreserve.com for more information.
