Everything is coming up sweet, as Loch’s Maple prepares for its annual open house set for Saturday and Sunday, March 21 and 22 from 10 am to 5 pm both days.
This marks the 23rd year for the maple celebration on the Loch’s family farm and, like every year past, there’s plenty of family fun, education, and sweet treats for everyone.
Event-goers can have their first taste of Loch’s freshly made maple syrup as the open house kicks off with a pancake breakfast Saturday from 7 am to 1 pm at the Springville Methodist Church.
Throughout both days there will be free tours of the sugar house, where Randy Loch will explain the process of boiling sap to syrup, as well as tours of the fiber mill to see the progression of turning wool fibers into beautiful yarn.
Something new this year, on Saturday only, the 11 am sugar house tour will be interpreted for the deaf and hard of hearing. Also on Saturday, forester Robert Hansen will be on hand to explain the equipment used in the woods for collecting sap.
There’s plenty more to see and experience at the open house. The whole family will enjoy demonstrations of soap making, hand spinning, fiber arts, and chainsaw carving. There will also be vendors with their wares available to purchase, including polymer clay and kumihimo jewelry, locally made cheese, plus a few surprises.
Food will be available both days, and of course, there will be plenty of maple treats to enjoy: maple syrup, cream, and candy, maple milkshakes and sundaes, maple hot cocoa, maple coffee, maple vinegar, and maple caramel popcorn.
There is no admission or parking charge, and all tours and demonstrations are free as well.
