30th Towanda Riverfest Kicks Off on Thursday

It’s time for the Towanda’s annual Riverfest, which is held along the banks of the Susquehanna River on the Merrill Parkway, running from Thursday to Saturday, Aug. 17 to 19. The Committee has been in full swing since spring planning all the fun activities for the event which will include fabulous food, crafters, carnival rides, games and live entertainment.
This year, Season 9 “American Idol” finalist Aaron Kelly from Sonestown will be Saturday night’s entertainment with Flipside as the opening act.
The spectacular fireworks show, “Fire Over the River, ” will again be a highlight of Riverfest. The show has become “the one to see” in the region and draws a crowd of thousands on Saturday night.
A 5-K race will be held on Saturday morning, followed by baby and toddler races.
Nonweiler Amusements will provide rides and games again this year. On Thursday and Friday, the Midway will open at 6 pm. On Saturday, the Midway will open at 1 pm. There will be special wristband prices on Thursday and Saturday. Wristbands will be available at the table at the entrance to the midway – not at the ticket booths. Individual tickets can be purchased at the ticket booths.
The generosity of the community allows the committee to be able to offer these activities at no cost for everyone to enjoy. Riverfest has grown each year and has become the “end of summer event” to attend because of the financial support of dedicated individuals, small and large business owners and community-oriented industries. Riverfest is a great promotional tool for Towanda and the surrounding area and is another reason to visit and live in the beautiful Endless Mountains.
In addition to taking in all that this year’s Riverfest has to offer, committee members are hoping that the public continues to feel that the event is worthy of ongoing support. To help in sponsoring the fireworks show, live entertainment, and other activities, interested readers may contact Stacy Schoonover 570-268-9203 or Jim Haight 570-268-9207.
