Muslims and Christians to Gather at Tunkhannock Church

Know Your Neighbors: An Interfaith Dialogue Panel + Q&A” will be taking place on Sunday, Sept. 17 from 4 to 5:30 pm at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church (located at 3832 US-6, Tunkhannock, PA). All are welcome to attend this evening discussion exploring the shared value between Christianity and Islam. This event is free and sponsored by the Islamic Center of Scranton and St. Peter’s.

The panel will include Dr. Marwan Wafa, Sahar Al-Masri, The Rev. Lou Divis, and Pastor Alex Becker.

Dr. Marwan Wafa (above) and his wife, Sahar Al Masri, spearheaded the creation of Diversity Circles at Penn State Worthington Scranton to promote greater understanding, inclusion, and acceptance within both the campus and local communities, as well as provide a forum for individuals to discuss diversity issues. Dr. Wafa earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Kuwait University and a Master’s in Management and Doctorate in Industrial Management from Clemson University.

Rev. Lou Divis is the Rector of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Tunkhannock. She is a graduate of The General Theological Seminary. Rev. Divis has facilitated discussions in the past on same-gender ministry from the viewpoint of The Episcopal Church and on the responsibilities of gun ownership.

Rev. Alex Becker is the pastor of Langcliffe Presbyterian Church in Avoca. He is a graduate of Louisville Presbyterian Seminary and Messiah College, and was ordained in 2012. He is a regular blogger at the Presbyterian Outlook (pres-outlook.org/author/alexbecker).

This event was put together in a joint effort by both Rev. Divis and Tim Maloney, a community organizer and peace advocate based out of the Wilkes-Barre area. For more information, call 570-591-1284.
