The Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring their 36th. annual Fall Festival, Lumberjack and Mid-Atlantic National Chainsaw Carving Competition on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 8 and 9.

It will be held at the Sullivan County Fairgrounds located along Route 154 in Forksville. The time of the festival is 9 am to 5 pm both days, rain or shine. There is an admission charge of $7 per adult, with children 12 years and under free when accompanied by an adult.

The festival will feature something to interest every member of the family, including a juried art/craft show/sale with a wide variety of items to choose from created by talented craftspeople. Also, there will be a quilt show/sale with many beautiful quilts to look at or purchase in the Flag Building.

For the younger set, we have a variety of children’s activities  such as painting faces on pumpkins and many other activities to keep them entertained.

Saturday will feature a variety of woodsmen’s activities. Starting at approximately 9 am, contests will include the Log Roll, Crosscut, Jack and Jill Crosscut, One Man

Bucking, Bow Saw, Hot Saw and Axe Throw.

On Sunday, around noon, the Chainsaw Obstacle Course will be held. Cash prizes will be awarded.

The Mid-Atlantic National Chainsaw Carving demonstrations and competitions bring another exciting element to the varied events at the festival. The carvers begin with a Master log (approximately 8 feet long and 18 inches wide). Carvers from different states compete for cash prizes. The competition takes place both days with the completed projects judged on Sunday at 4 pm.

On Saturday, at about 3 pm and Sunday at 2 pm, three foot carvings produced in one hour are auctioned to the public. Your bid will be greatly appreciated and you will take home a “one of a kind” carving.

Featured also will be the Sullivan County Council on the Arts, Art Expo, an Art/Photography/3D/Show/Sale. Local artists and those from surrounding areas will display their masterpieces for everyone to enjoy. Be sure to visit the Blue Building, home of the Art Expo, and place your entry for the Choice of Show and the lucky artist will win a cash prize.  Many other cash prizes, as decided by the judges, will be awarded to artists in the exhibit.

Look toward the outside stage, you will see and hear the music and singing of “Top Shelf Band” on Saturday and “5 Man Trio” on Sunday throughout the day.

A variety of food vendors will be on site selling their tasty wares as you walk around the fairgrounds enjoying yourself with the wonderful atmosphere of many interesting activities.
