‘Firkin Fridays’ to Raise Funds for Local Charities

Nimble Hill Brewery is planning a series of events to benefit community organizations.

Once a month, the brewery will hold what it calls “Firkin Fridays” benefiting a different organization in Wyoming County each month. The first event is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 26, from 4 to 7 pm, at the tap room on Route 6, east of Tunkhannock, and will benifit the Wyoming County Special Needs Association.

According to brewmaster Michael Simmons, a firkin is an old English term for a keg of beer, typically one with beer that is served warmer and less carbonation.

For each event, Simmons said he will create a special firkin with a uniquely flavored brew, created specifically for the event. For the inaugural event, he said the brew would be a chocolate, caramel coffee porter.

Those attending will be able to purchase a 12-ounce glass of the unique beverage for $4. Nimble Hill will donate 100% of that money to the organization. Simmons said he hopes to raise about $250 to $500 for each organization.

Plans are already in the works for the second Firkin Friday. It will be on Friday, Feb. 23, and benefit Wyoming County United Way.
