Flea Market Expansion Provides Many More Options

A recent expansion at the Wysox Flea Market, located behind Flynn’s Beverage off The Golden Mile, initially makes room for 11 new vendors as of Aug. 3. Slowly, but surely, the market is offering something for everyone.

The Wysox Flea Market at the site of the former Agway Feed Store in Wysox Township has enjoyed remarkable patronage since it opened in June. Owners Rick Lines and Chip Lines-Burgess are impressed that the need for expansion of their enterprise has come so quickly.

In addition to the indoor market, which offers antiques, model train supplies, fireworks, Native American items, books, crocheted items, woodwork, hunting and man-cave supplies, folk art, tools, dolls, children’s clothing, reclaimed furniture, walking sticks, and quilts, a growing number of outdoor vendors have been setting up in the parking lot.

The property is also home to Energy Machine Manufacturing, which offers a full line of welding and fabricating services. Rick uses the shop to create unique plasma art creations that are available for purchase in the market. He recently presented a customized piece to Jon Pardi at the Troy Fair, a replica of which the country artist signed for him (below).

The new section of the shop, which can grow as needed thanks to the clever use of room dividers on casters, offers more space for Rick to display his creations, as well as room for dealers to sell large items on consignment.

Other dealers in the new section – dubbed Cricket Cavern – will bring additional offerings to the Wysox Flea Market, such as handmade cigarbox string instruments that can be amplified. A gold and silver jewelry dealer will also be able to make repairs on pieces brought in by customers.

We’re very excited about the improvements that we’ve been able to bring to the market,” says Chip. “The community has really taken to us, and they bring new ideas to us all the time.”

On Saturday, Aug. 4, for example, traditional forger Mitch Smith and his wife Juanita of Monroeton, will conduct blacksmithing demonstrations in parking lot – smoke, sparks and all. They will return as time permits, as Mitch is also a cook on on a cruise ship.

The Wysox Flea Market is open from 7 am to 7 pm Thursday through Sunday. The outdoor flea market is open on Saturdays and Sundays. For information on vendor space, call Chip at 570-855-5326.
