As part of an ambitious agenda, the Bradford County Commissioners approved the spending of more than $328,000 for projects in low- to moderate-income (LMI) communities as part of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The two motions concerning the funds included an extension of a three-year project activity completion requirement from 2014 and a new three-plan beginning in 2017.

One of the projects, a new playground in Rome borough, has been recently completed and was visited by the commissioners on June 3. Approximately $50,000 was spent on new and refurbished equipment at the site of the former Rome High School. The playground is already popular, the commissioners noted, with children and with senior citizens who are walking for exercise there.

Additionally, $130,000 was earmarked for street paving, bridge repair and draining work in New Albany; $78,690 for sewer replacement for LMI residents in Sayre; and nearly $70,000 to be used county-wide for housing rehab projects.

Prior to the commissioner’s meeting, retiring housing rehab coordinator Robyn D’Anna and incoming rehab coordinator Amanda Boyer conducted a public meeting at which they distributed copies of CDBG Program requirements (below).
