The Dining With Diabetes program will be held in Wyalusing on Wednesdays October 5, 12, 19, 26, from 5 to 7 pm at the Park Place Apartments Community Room on Park Street in Wyalusing. A follow up class will be scheduled for January.

The program cost is $25 for the first participant and $10 for an additional family member to attend. There will be an optional free informational session on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at the same time and location for those wanting to find out more about the program.

A light supper of recipe sampling will be served at each class. In addition, at the first and follow up class, participants may have an A1C test taken as well as blood pressure readings.

Informational booklets will be provided as well as exercise DVDs, exercise bands, cookbook, pedometer, measuring tape, carry all bag, and a nutritional information place mat – a value of over $100.

Diabetes is a very serious and costly disease, but research has shown that those who learn to manage their blood glucose (sugar) levels eat healthy, and exercise regularly can lower their risk of complications and lead a healthier and more productive life. Dining with Diabetes is a program for adults with diabetes and their families, though you do not need to currently have diabetes to participate.

Participants will learn how to prepare meals that are healthy, simple, and taste good. Recipes will be sampled at each class. Participants will also learn up-to-date information on nutrition, meal planning, and exercise as well as how to understand common, diabetes-related medical tests.
