Whipple Performing Arts Studio to Present “Golden Spike”

Students of the Whipple Performing Arts Studio will present their annual spring recital on Saturday, May 7 at 3 pm and 7 pm at Tunkhannock Area High School. “The Golden Spike” was the ceremonial final spike driven by Leland Stanford to join the rails of the First Continental Railroad across the United States at Promontory Summit, Utah Territory.

Students will take on the roles of 1800’s Eastern and Western fictional characters. The cast ranges in age from 3 to adult and will delight audiences with their talents in tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, Irish, bellydance, hip hop, praise and worship and Victorian ballroom.

Natalie Markovitz, a 2016 graduating senior from Tunkhannock Area High School, has the starring role as Eliza Stanford – the daughter of American tycoon and industrialist Leland Stanford and longs to leave the confines of Eastern society and find herself a handsome cowboy to marry.

Pre-sale tickets are $10 general admission and may be purchased at the Whipple Performing Arts Studio or by calling 570-836-6986. Credit cards accepted. Remaining tickets will be sold at the door at $12. Children 5 and under are encouraged to attend with adults at no charge.
