DJ Raymond Phillips (above, center) is looking to close the gaps in his Winter and Spring schedule with bookings at your bar or night club.

Mobile DJ and karaoke host Raymond Phillips doesn’t believe for a minute that people don’t want to go out in the winter.

People get bored when they’re stuck inside,” says Ray. “They really need to get out.”

Ray, a graduate of Tunkhannock Area High School and a resident of Beaumont in Wyoming County, insists that party music is the best cure for cabin fever, “regardless of whether your patrons live in the city, a small town, or literally in a cabin the country.”

Each situation calls for a different set of music, and that’s what excites Ray the most about DJing. “I grew up listening to all kinds of music…country, rock, soul and oldies,” he notes.

Ray’s home studio confirms the story of a man raised on a large variety of music who loves sharing it with other people. While the portable equipment that he uses is state-of-the-art and computer-generated, his bookshelves are packed tightly with old vinyl records and classic stereo equipment with which he can’t bare to part.

Ray continually updates his hard drive with the latest hits and seeks out the few classics that he doesn’t already have that are requested by patrons during his gigs. The modern technology of carrying ten times the number of songs to a gig than was possible in the days of record crates allows Ray to pull from his vast mental repertoire of party music to accommodate any crowd.

Bar owners like Ray for his ability to read a crowd and adjust the flow of the music accordingly, rather than arriving with a set program in mind and a limited knowledge of the sure-floor-fillers that can bridge his segues from dance to rock music and into country or even Latin hits as needed.

In addition to dance floor lighting and his extensive music library, Ray can make karaoke an integral or limited element of a club party, depending on the desires of management or the crowd. If you want to offer your patrons a truly unique experience, Ray can bring his photo booth. He has a wide variety of lighting that can be used to compliment existing bar lighting to create a fuller ambiance.

His operation, Raymond Phillips Sight & Sound Entertainment, has grown steadily in recent years, and DJ Ray is booked through much of the summer hosting wedding receptions and private parties. He feels just as comfortable hosting karaoke in a corner bar as he does playing music outdoors at community festivals. He admits that his favorite crowds are those who anticipate and enjoy a wide variety of music.

Ray plays regularly at Twisted Dick’s in Meshoppen, The Warren Hotel in Tunkhannock, Lispi’s Lounge in in Plains, as well as making occasional visits to numerous other drinkeries and clubs in the Wyoming Valley and Endless Mountains Region.

As his reputation as a dependable, professional and talented entertainer grows, Ray expects his Winter/Spring 2016 calendar to fill quickly. He can be contacted on Facebook at Raymond C. Phillips or at www.rayztoons.com.
