Equines For Freedom is pleased to announce it has received a $10,000 grant from the Robert H. Spitz Foundation, administered by the Scranton Area Community Foundation. These funds will be used to support equine-assisted therapy for veterans and first responders, allowing the organization to provide this service at no cost to participants.
Board president Bruce Spencer states, “We are so very grateful to the Spitz Foundation for supporting us so we can continue helping veterans and first responders get their lives back.”
Equines For Freedom provides a unique setting for veterans and first responders to receive free therapy to aid in reducing symptoms of post traumatic stress. Horses partner with a treatment team consisting of an equine specialist and a licensed mental health provider trained in equine-assisted EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). This is a free, non-riding, mental health program.
The Mission of Equines For Freedom is to provide equine-assisted PTSD treatment to current and former U.S. Service Members and first responders regardless of the source of their trauma or their characterization of service, at no charge to the service member.
