Northern Tier Beef Producer Meetings Planned

The Penn State Extension Livestock Team and the Pennsylvania Beef Producer Working Group are planning a series of three beef producer meetings across the northern tier counties of Tioga, Bradford, and Susquehanna in April.

The meetings will be Tuesday, April 9 at the Tokishi Center, 124 Nypum Drive, Wellsboro; Wednesday, April 10 at the Towanda Gun Club, 164 Gun Club Lane, Towanda; and Thursday, April 11 at the Montrose Library, 458 High School Road, Montrose. Each meeting will run from 6:30 pm to 9 pm. There is no charge to attend, but interested persons are asked to register by calling 877-345-0691.

Guest speakers for each evening will be extension educators Dustin Heeter and Dave Hartman.  Dustin is a long-term Penn State Extension livestock team member based in Westmoreland County.  He also is owner/operator of a cow/calf farm. The title of Dustin’s presentation will be Beef Cow Breeding and Selection: considering form and function. 

Dave Hartman is a veteran ag extension educator and is also a member of the Penn State Extension livestock team.  He is based in Lycoming County. Dave is owner/operator of a grass-finishing beef and sheep farm.  The title of Dave’s presentation will be Managing the Spring Flush in Cool-Season Pastures: and managing to avoid the spring flush.
