Police Identify Man Who Drove into Meshoppen Park

Vehicle parts remain along the embankment that separates Meshoppen Community Park from Route 267 and Canal Street weeks after an alleged drunk driver plowed through the guide rail and utility pole across from the borough offices.

William David Poltersdorf, 30, Milford was charged with high-rate DUI, first offense, failure to keep right, driving at an unsafe speed and causing an accident resulting in damage to property in Meshoppen in the early morning hours of Oct. 20.

According to police, Poltersdorf was traveling at a high rate of speed coming down Route 267 into the borough and failed to negotiate the curve. His truck went through the guide rail and clipped off a utility pole at the base, plunging local residents and businesses into darkness.

Witnesses say that Poltersdorf fled the scene on foot, running up toward Rattlesnake Hill Road. He was apprehended by police a short time later. His preliminary hearing will be held on Dec. 11.
