Plant Sale Planned by Penn State Extension

Submitted Article

Spring is late for everyone this year!  The Penn State Extension Master Gardeners, located in Bradford & Sullivan counties, will be holding their annual perennial plant sale a bit later this year, on Saturday, June 2, 9:00 am to 11:00 am or until sold out.  The sale will take place at Academy Park, S. Main St, Athens, across from the Spaulding Memorial Library.

All plants sold come from local gardens, which means they have the advantage of being acclimated to growing conditions in our area. Master Gardeners will be on hand to discuss plant size, light and water requirements, how they can be used most effectively, and maintenance requirements.

Examples of plants which will be available this year include shasta daisy, turk’s cap lily, beebalm, peony, bleeding heart, campanula, bearded iris, hosta, and many many more. Most plants are priced $4 per container.

Customers are encouraged to arrive by 9:00 am, as the sale historically sells out quickly. Just be aware – no pre-sales or plant reservations before 9 am.  Shoppers are advised to bring cartons or trays if they plan to purchase a large number of plants.
