The annual Meshoppen Holiday Fund Easter Egg Hunt was held under sunny skies on March 31, with the field at Community Park finally clear of snow and just dry enough for the distribution of thousands of colored plastic eggs containing candy and prize slips. Participants from infants to adults vied for top prizes that included tricycles and bicycles donated by area businesses.

In addition to hunting for eggs, participants could help themselves to cupcakes, hot dogs, coffee and hot chocolate prepared by regular helpers Jenny Graham and Mariah McClain. Meshoppen Ambulance crew members were standing by, as were borough police officers John Krieg and Sierra Crane. Holly Stark, who has coordinated the event for the community for more than a decade, also emceed the egg hunt.

Stark began the event with a big “thank you” to everyone who either assisted with the egg hunt or donated cash or prizes to make it possible. Participants 0-to-2 years old were helped by volunteer Mike Houser (below) to select a bag containing eggs that held either candy or prize slips.

The remainder of the eggs were spread in clusters across the field, in wait of the 3-to-5, 6-to-8, 9-to-12, and 13-and-over age groups to pounce on them excitedly.

The Meshoppen Holiday Fun is also responsible for the annual Halloween costume party at the park. Individuals and business owners who would like to assist Stark with her efforts can contact her via Facebook or at 570-833-4317.
